The company is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Artisan, HER within the Engineering Department.

About the Role

The Artisan, HER will be responsible for carrying out inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Heavy Earthmoving Equipment (HER) to ensure maximum equipment availability, reliability, and safe operation. The successful candidate will perform preventive and corrective maintenance while adhering to company safety standards and maintenance procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy earthmoving equipment.

  • Carry out scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic system faults.

  • Perform component replacements and equipment overhauls as required.

Inspection & Diagnostics

  • Conduct routine equipment inspections and identify defects.

  • Record equipment faults and recommend corrective actions.

  • Test repaired equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and job reports.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow company safety procedures and maintenance standards.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

  • Ensure tools and workshop equipment are properly maintained.

  • Participate in safety meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.

Team Support

  • Work collaboratively with supervisors and fellow artisans.

  • Provide technical support during equipment breakdowns.

  • Assist with training and mentoring junior team members where required.

  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Grade 12 School Certificate.

  • Craft Certificate or equivalent qualification in a relevant mechanical trade.

  • Valid trade qualification from a recognized institution.

  • EIZ Member and with a valid practising licence.

Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Minimum four (4) years of post-apprenticeship experience in maintaining Heavy Earthmoving Equipment within the mining industry.

  • Practical experience working on mining mobile equipment.

  • Experience in troubleshooting hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.

Required Skills and Competencies

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.

  • Good understanding of heavy earthmoving equipment maintenance.

  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.

  • Ability to read technical manuals and engineering drawings.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

  • High level of safety awareness and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
