Job Description

Assistant Accountant

Sabot Zambia Limited is a cross-border hauling company focused on providing safe, reliable, cost-effective, and efficient cargo transportation services. The company is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to join its team at the Kitwe Depot.

About the Role

The Assistant Accountant will support the company's finance function by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions and payments, assisting with reconciliations, and ensuring statutory and financial reports are prepared accurately and on time.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Transactions & Records

  • Post daily financial transactions, bills, and payments into the accounting system.

  • Update and maintain accurate general financial records.

  • Track and review invoices and process vendor payments.

  • Support the preparation of accurate and timely accounting reports.

  • Perform any other accounting duties assigned by superiors.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.

  • Review supplier invoices and supporting documentation.

  • Process payments for vendor bills in accordance with company procedures.

  • Follow up on outstanding receivables and maintain accurate records.

Reconciliations & Asset Accounting

  • Support routine reconciliation of accounts.

  • Assist with periodic verification of company assets.

  • Maintain accurate asset records to support effective asset accounting and control.

  • Identify and report discrepancies in financial records.

Statutory Reporting

  • Assist with statutory accounting and reporting requirements.

  • Support the preparation and submission of PAYE and NAPSA returns.

  • Ensure financial information is accurate and submitted within the required timelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate.

  • Diploma or Degree in Accountancy or a relevant accounting programme.

  • Relevant professional qualifications such as ZICA, CIMA, or ACCA.

  • Must be a member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).

Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • At least 2 years of post-qualification experience.

  • Experience in accounting and financial record management.

  • Experience with accounting software and financial reporting.

  • Previous experience in the transport industry will be an added advantage.

International Truck Drivers x65

Sabot Zambia Limited is also seeking experienced International Truck Drivers to support its cross-border cargo transportation operations.

Key Responsibilities

Driving & Cargo Delivery

  • Deliver clients' cargo safely and within the required timelines.

  • Load and offload cargo at designated locations as instructed by superiors.

  • Ensure cargo is delivered in good condition.

  • Obtain signed and stamped Proof of Delivery (POD) documents from consignees after delivery.

Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance

  • Conduct basic physical vehicle inspections before departure.

  • Check wheel nuts, tyres, fuel levels, windscreen wipers, lights, and other essential vehicle components.

  • Ensure trailers are correctly hooked before departure.

  • Report mechanical faults and vehicle defects to the appropriate supervisors.

  • Report accidents and other incidents immediately.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Ensure all required documents are valid and carried at all times, including licences, Yellow Cards, insurance documents, permits, and other relevant documentation.

  • Comply with all applicable traffic laws and regulations.

  • Ensure company vehicles are not left unattended without prior approval.

  • Follow company safety policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Minimum Grade 9 Certificate with the ability to read and write.

  • Full and valid CE driving licence.

  • Valid PSV driving licence endorsed with Class D.

  • Valid passport.

  • Recent Police Clearance Certificate.

  • Must be a Zambian citizen and at least 30 years old.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' experience operating heavy-duty trucks.

  • Knowledge of auto mechanics will be an added advantage.

General Qualifications & Experience

Applicants for the workshop and technical positions should possess:

  • Certificate or Diploma in the relevant field of study.

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate.

  • At least 3 years' experience working in a busy workshop.

  • A clean and valid manual driving licence will be an added advantage for technicians.

Candidates should have practical knowledge relevant to the position being applied for and demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a busy transport and workshop environment.
