Visit WebsiteGood Nature Agro's Perennial Programme is an eight-month, live-on-farm learning experience designed to develop the next generation of agricultural leaders and commercially successful farmers.
The programme provides agricultural professionals with practical farming experience, access to land, technical support, and exposure to the commercial aspects of farming. Interns will work directly with experienced Perennial Farmers while developing the technical, leadership, business, and problem-solving skills required for a potential long-term career in agriculture.
Each intern will be allocated a small production block and will progressively take on greater responsibility for managing the block throughout the programme.
The programme may also provide a pathway toward a Field Supervisor role for candidates who demonstrate the required capability and progression.
Perennial Programme Interns will gain practical experience across crop production, farm operations, farmer extension, data management, commercial farming, and leadership.
The role is highly practical and requires participants to live and work on a farm for the full eight-month programme. Interns will learn under the guidance of an assigned Perennial Farmer while gradually taking greater responsibility for their allocated production block.
Participate in all stages of crop production, from land preparation and planting through to harvesting and post-harvest handling.
Support Perennial Farmers in implementing recommended agronomic practices and production plans.
Conduct routine field observations and identify crop, pest, disease, soil, and other production-related issues.
Participate in crop scouting, data collection, and field assessments.
Support demonstrations and trials involving new crops, varieties, and production practices.
Maintain accurate farm production records covering planting, inputs, labour, crop development, and harvest information.
Learn and apply Good Nature Agro's production, quality, and seed-handling standards.
Support the planning and coordination of daily farm activities.
Assist with the proper use, storage, and maintenance of farm tools, equipment, and agricultural inputs.
Promote safe working practices and compliance with farm health, safety, and environmental requirements.
Participate in the effective day-to-day running of the farm.
Observe and support the Perennial Farmer when communicating technical information to farm workers.
Develop the ability to explain agronomic practices clearly and practically.
Build practical communication and farmer-support skills.
Develop the knowledge and leadership capabilities required for potential progression into a Field Supervisor role.
Capture and maintain accurate field and farm data.
Prepare basic farm and field reports under the guidance of the assigned Perennial Farmer.
Report field observations, challenges, and emerging production risks promptly.
Develop proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other tools used for field management and reporting.
Use farm data to support monitoring and decision-making.
Develop an understanding of farming as a commercial business.
Participate in farm budgeting, cost tracking, and production planning.
Understand the relationship between yields, input costs, labour costs, quality, and profitability.
Support the monitoring of farm income and expenditure under the guidance of the Perennial Farmer.
Develop an appreciation of the financial considerations involved in running a viable farming enterprise.
Participate in training and learning activities through Good Nature University.
Maintain a personal learning and development log throughout the eight-month placement.
Participate in regular performance reviews with the Perennial Farmer and Good Nature Agro.
Demonstrate continuous improvement in technical knowledge, leadership, communication, and problem-solving.
Gradually take responsibility for an allocated production block and manage it independently over time.
Maintain professional conduct and discipline throughout the programme.
Respect the Perennial Farmer, farm workers, surrounding communities, and farm property.
Participate actively in the daily operations of the farm.
Maintain appropriate standards of personal responsibility, hygiene, safety, and care of accommodation.
Commit fully to the agreed farm schedule and assigned responsibilities.
Adapt to the practical demands of living and working in a farming environment.
Applicants should:
Hold a Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Agriculture or a related agricultural field.
Demonstrate a genuine passion for agriculture and working with farmers.
Be willing to live and work on a farm for the full eight-month programme.
Be eager to learn, take initiative, and accept increasing levels of responsibility.
Demonstrate strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Have an interest in building a long-term career in agriculture.
Be willing to work in a practical, hands-on farming environment.

This is a live-on-farm internship based in Chipata, Eastern Province. Interns will spend the majority of their time in a practical farming environment and will be expected to participate in daily farm activities.
The programme also requires field travel and direct interaction with farm workers, Perennial Farmers, and surrounding communities.
