BIA Group is seeking a highly experienced Roving Engineer to provide advanced technical expertise across its operations in Zambia.
About the Role
The Roving Engineer will provide advanced remote and on-site technical support for all Komatsu product lines represented by BIA. The successful candidate will serve as the primary technical liaison between Komatsu (OEM) and BIA country operations, ensuring effective resolution of complex technical issues, maximizing warranty claim recoveries, and improving technical competencies across regional after-sales teams.
This role requires extensive travel to mining and construction sites, supporting customers and local technical teams while promoting OEM best practices and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support
Provide advanced remote and on-site technical support for escalated equipment breakdowns and service cases.
Act as the primary technical liaison between Komatsu and BIA country operations.
Investigate and resolve major technical issues affecting mining and construction equipment.
Monitor and follow up on technical support cases until successful resolution.
Ensure compliance with OEM technical standards, procedures, and requirements.
Warranty & Claims Management
Prepare and submit high-quality warranty and technical claim files.
Maximise warranty claim recoveries by ensuring complete and accurate documentation.
Monitor the entire claims process from submission through reimbursement.
Ensure compliance with OEM claims procedures and timelines.
Technical Information Management
Distribute technical bulletins, service instructions, and product updates across BIA operations.
Monitor implementation of OEM technical recommendations.
Prepare technical reports, action plans, statistics, and progress updates.
Conduct regular technical review meetings with OEM representatives and BIA teams.
Field Support
Visit mining and construction sites to support field investigations and equipment troubleshooting.
Work closely with customers, site teams, and OEM specialists to resolve complex technical issues.
Promote safe work practices during all field activities.
Support deployment of digital technologies such as SmartFleet and other OEM digital solutions.
Communication & Collaboration
Promote knowledge sharing and best practices across BIA country operations.
Escalate high-priority technical issues to local management and the Group Technical Support Manager.
Provide regular updates on workload, technical performance, project progress, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Training & Development
Train, mentor, and coach local technical teams.
Deliver technical training programmes when required.
Strengthen product knowledge and technical competencies across after-sales teams.
Projects
Develop and implement technical improvement projects based on organisational needs.
Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance equipment reliability and customer satisfaction.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent technical qualification.
Experience
The ideal candidate should have:
Minimum 10 years' experience as a Technical Engineer within the heavy equipment, mining, or construction industry.
Mandatory experience with Komatsu Germany hydraulic mining shovels (PC3000 to PC8000).
Strong understanding of Komatsu equipment and dealer support processes.
Fluency in English; knowledge of French will be an added advantage.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
