Civil Engineer – Maamba Energy Limited (MEL)

About the Role

Maamba Energy Limited (MEL), jointly owned by Nava Bharat Singapore Pte. Limited and ZCCM-IH Plc, is inviting applications from experienced and motivated professionals for the position of Civil Engineer. The successful candidate will provide technical engineering expertise, supervise civil construction and maintenance projects, and support the delivery of civil works across the mine, township, and office facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Civil Works Planning & Logistics

  • Prepare budget proposals, quantity estimates, and cost plans.

  • Prepare purchase requisitions for materials, equipment, and services.

  • Coordinate procurement and delivery of construction materials.

  • Assist in risk assessments and maintain inventories of civil materials.

Civil Works Execution & Supervision

  • Supervise civil construction and maintenance activities.

  • Ensure projects comply with engineering specifications, legal requirements, and HSE standards.

  • Monitor project progress, quality, and contractor performance.

  • Provide technical solutions to construction challenges.

  • Escalate significant engineering issues where necessary.

Team Supervision

  • Monitor workforce deployment and attendance.

  • Support staff performance management and development.

  • Mentor Civil Supervisors and junior engineering staff.

Health, Safety & Reporting

  • Promote compliance with workplace health, safety, and environmental policies.

  • Maintain safe and clean work sites.

  • Prepare weekly progress reports and maintain photographic records of project milestones.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • Grade 12 School Certificate.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.

  • Paid-up membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Civil Engineering and Construction.

  • At least 2 years in a supervisory role.

  • Experience in construction supervision, quality assurance, and HSE compliance.

  • Experience in mining site civil works.

  • Practical experience using AutoCAD for site layouts and construction drawings.

Skills & Competencies

  • Civil construction supervision and quality control.

  • Budget preparation, quantity estimation, and procurement planning.

  • Construction risk assessment and HSE compliance.

  • Progress reporting and project documentation.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Knowledge of structural and civil engineering design standards.

  • SAP procurement module experience is an added advantage.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and technical problem-solving skills.
