About the Role
The Senior Forward Deployed Engineer will work closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to understand operational challenges, design innovative software solutions, and deploy digital applications that improve efficiency, productivity, and decision-making across the mining business. This role combines software engineering, systems analysis, solution architecture, and stakeholder engagement to deliver practical business solutions using modern technologies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Analysis
Engage stakeholders to understand business challenges and operational requirements.
Analyse and document business processes and translate them into technical requirements.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and digital transformation.
Facilitate workshops and gather user requirements.
2. Solution Architecture
Design scalable, secure, and reliable software solutions.
Develop technical architectures aligned with business objectives.
Ensure solutions integrate effectively with existing enterprise systems.
Provide technical guidance throughout solution implementation.
3. Data Engineering
Build and optimise data pipelines and data management processes.
Develop reporting solutions and dashboards that support business intelligence.
Ensure high standards of data quality, governance, and integrity.
Collaborate with database administrators and analytics teams.
4. AI Solutions
Develop and implement Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) solutions where appropriate.
Identify opportunities for intelligent automation.
Support predictive analytics and decision-support systems.
Champion innovation through emerging technologies.
5. Software Engineering
Build, deploy, and support digital products that solve real business problems.
Develop high-quality software using modern engineering practices.
Apply coding standards, testing procedures, and quality assurance practices.
Utilise DevOps platforms and automation tools to ensure secure and reliable application delivery.
Maintain and continuously improve production systems.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
A Master's Degree will be an added advantage.
All academic qualifications must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
Experience
The successful candidate should have:
Minimum 5 years' hands-on experience in solution design and delivery as an implementation consultant, software developer, or solution architect.
Experience as a business or systems analyst with the ability to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Experience in mining or resources operations is an added advantage.
Strong knowledge of databases, SQL, systems integration, and enterprise applications.
Experience developing analytics and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning solutions.
Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, Python, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
Strong understanding of SOLID principles, software design patterns, manual and automated testing.
Experience with Git, JIRA, DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Agile methodologies, UX, and design thinking.
Membership of ICTAZ or EIZ is an added advantage.
