The company is seeking qualified and experienced Coded Welders to join its Lusaka Remanufacturing branch, supporting structural repairs and component rebuilding on heavy mining equipment.
The Coded Welder will be responsible for carrying out coded welding, fabrication and structural repair work on heavy mining equipment and components. The successful candidates will work in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), engineering drawings and OEM standards.
The role requires a strong focus on structural integrity, dimensional accuracy, welding quality, workplace safety and environmental compliance.
The position reports to the Senior Machineshop Supervisor at the Lusaka Reman branch.
Perform coded welding repairs in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
Carry out structural repairs on heavy mining equipment and components.
Perform crack excavation, weld restoration and structural reinforcement.
Repair frames, buckets, booms, chassis and other fabricated assemblies.
Fabricate structural components such as brackets, gussets, stiffeners and wear plates.
Use flame cutting, grinding and other fabrication techniques to prepare components for repair and assembly.
Inspect components for cracks, wear, distortion and weld failures before and after repair.
Interpret engineering drawings, welding specifications and weld symbols.
Ensure completed welding work meets required engineering and quality specifications.
Prepare components for Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) and Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI).
Address defects identified during inspection and ensure repairs meet required standards.
Maintain dimensional accuracy and structural integrity throughout the repair process.
Maintain accurate welding reports, repair documentation and component traceability records.
Support workshop audits, inspections and quality-control activities.
Participate in root-cause investigations relating to welding and structural failures.
Recommend improvements to welding processes and repair procedures.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the remanufacturing operation.
Follow all company safety, environmental and workshop procedures.
Conduct and comply with Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) before undertaking assigned work.
Maintain good housekeeping and an organised work area.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safe welding practices.
Report unsafe conditions, defects and other hazards in accordance with company procedures.
Applicants should possess:
Full Grade 12 Certificate.
Craft Certificate in Boilermaking, Welding, Metal Fabrication or a related trade.
Valid Coded Welding Qualification.
3–5 years of relevant experience in heavy equipment welding and fabrication.
Experience performing structural repairs on heavy mobile mining equipment.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding specifications and weld symbols.
Practical experience with SMAW, FCAW and GMAW welding processes.
Experience using oxy-fuel cutting equipment.
Qualifications validated by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
Coded welding and structural fabrication.
Heavy mining equipment repair and component rebuilding.
Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
Engineering drawing and weld-symbol interpretation.
Structural defect identification and repair.
SMAW, FCAW and GMAW welding.
Oxy-fuel cutting, grinding and fabrication.
MPI and DPI inspection preparation.
Dimensional accuracy and quality control.
Welding documentation and traceability.
Strong attention to workmanship and quality.
Safety-conscious approach to workshop activities.
Ability to identify defects and contribute to root-cause investigations.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work effectively with welders, inspectors, engineers and rebuild teams.
Strong commitment to continuous improvement.
Ability to follow technical instructions, procedures and quality standards.
Professional and disciplined approach to assigned work.
The position is based at the Hitachi Construction Machinery Zambia Remanufacturing branch in Lusaka and involves workshop-based welding, fabrication, structural repair and component rebuilding activities involving heavy mining equipment.
The successful candidates will be required to work in accordance with strict safety, quality and environmental requirements while handling welding, cutting, grinding and heavy equipment components.
