Maamba Energy Limited is seeking a qualified Planning Engineer to join its Engineering Department in Maamba.
The Planning Engineer will coordinate integrated maintenance planning across Mechanical, Electrical, Automobile and Instrumentation assets. The role will focus on ensuring maintenance activities are properly planned and work-ready, supporting equipment reliability, maintaining accurate technical records and ensuring compliance with approved engineering and safety standards.
Prepare daily, weekly, monthly and annual maintenance schedules.
Ensure labour, tools, spare parts, technical drawings, permits and isolations are available before maintenance work begins.
Maintain accurate asset registers and equipment criticality rankings.
Monitor maintenance backlogs and prioritise work orders according to operational requirements.
Coordinate maintenance activities across different engineering disciplines.
Develop, review and optimise preventive maintenance plans and checklists.
Coordinate predictive maintenance activities, including oil analysis, vibration monitoring, thermography, thickness testing and equipment calibration.
Monitor maintenance findings and support timely corrective action.
Participate in root-cause failure analysis and reliability improvement initiatives.
Identify opportunities to improve equipment availability and maintenance effectiveness.
Plan and coordinate shutdowns, equipment overhauls and major rebuilds.
Coordinate maintenance requirements with Operations, Stores, Procurement, SHEQ, contractors and OEMs.
Ensure required resources and materials are available for planned maintenance activities.
Monitor the quality and progress of maintenance work.
Follow up on corrective actions arising from inspections, maintenance activities and technical assessments.
Maintain accurate SAP or CMMS work orders and asset histories.
Ensure technical and maintenance records are complete and up to date.
Track key maintenance performance indicators, including:
Equipment availability
Schedule compliance
Preventive and predictive maintenance compliance
Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
Equipment downtime
Maintenance costs
Prepare maintenance performance, compliance and management reports.
Analyse maintenance data to support planning and reliability decisions.
Incorporate appropriate safety controls into maintenance plans and job procedures.
Ensure maintenance activities comply with permit-to-work and isolation requirements.
Support compliance with environmental and statutory requirements.
Identify and report unsafe conditions, equipment defects and non-conformances.
Promote safe working practices throughout maintenance planning and execution.
Applicants should possess:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Reliability, Industrial Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Membership and registration with Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
Registration with the Engineering Registration Board (ERB).
Training in SAP, CMMS or maintenance planning will be an added advantage.
A valid driver's licence is preferred.
Maintenance planning and scheduling.
Preventive and predictive maintenance.
Maintenance backlog and work-order management.
SAP or CMMS systems.
Shutdown and overhaul planning.
Contractor and resource coordination.
Maintenance performance analysis.
Reliability improvement.
Technical reporting and documentation.
Understanding of safety, statutory compliance and risk controls.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Safety-conscious and accountable approach to work.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong organisational and planning skills.
Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and engineering disciplines.
Good teamwork and communication skills.
Ability to work under operational pressure.
Disciplined and solutions-focused approach.
The position is based in Maamba, Sinazongwe District, Southern Province, within an industrial environment involving coal mining and power generation operations.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, operations, procurement, stores, SHEQ, contractors and equipment manufacturers to coordinate maintenance activities across a range of plant and equipment.
