Zambia Sugar PLC is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to join its Finance Department at Nakambala Estate.

Reports To: Customs Analyst
The Customs Officer will support Zambia Sugar PLC’s export operations by ensuring compliance with customs and tax legislation and facilitating the efficient clearance and movement of sugar exports.
The role involves preparing customs declarations, coordinating export documentation, monitoring shipments, supporting duty drawback and VAT requirements, and working closely with internal teams, customers, agents, and the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).
Ensure full compliance with the Customs and Excise Act and other applicable tax obligations.
Prepare and submit accurate export customs entries through ASYCUDA World.
Ensure customs declarations are correctly classified and valued in accordance with current registration requirements and customs practices.
Ensure export fees payable to ZRA are paid on time.
Assist in reviewing and validating supporting documentation before customs declarations are submitted.
Coordinate the dispatch of sugar exports from Nakambala to designated border points.
Monitor shipments to ensure timely exit clearance.
Maintain and monitor export dispatch tracking reports.
Work closely with the Customer Service Section (CSC) to facilitate timely clearance of sugar exports.
Support the efficient clearing of business exports and assist the commercial team with customs-related matters.
Monitor the correct application of trade agreements and preferential schemes, including SADC, COMESA, and other relevant trade protocols.
Ensure export sales documentation submitted by agents is complete and compliant for VAT Rule 18 and duty drawback (DDB) purposes.
Maintain records of documentation submitted for duty drawback claims to prevent claims from becoming time-barred.
Assist with the development and updating of internal customs procedures to improve efficiency and manage tax-related risks associated with exports.
Promote and comply with ABF procedures, policies, and guidelines.
Adhere to requirements relating to Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality.
Comply with Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) requirements.
Support a culture of compliance, accountability, and operational excellence.
Applicants should possess:
Grade 12 Certificate.
Relevant professional certificate, diploma, or degree in Clearing and Forwarding, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
A Customs Advanced Diploma will be an added advantage.
3–5 years’ relevant experience in a similar position or at a similar level.
A demonstrable track record of relevant customs, export, or clearing experience.
Membership of the Zambia Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (ZCILT), Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply (ZIPS), or Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) will be an added advantage.
Relevant academic and professional certificates must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).

The Assistant Customs Officer will support the Customs Officer and Customs Analyst in the administration and processing of export customs activities. The position will assist with customs declarations, documentation, shipment tracking, duty drawback claims, export reconciliations, and regulatory compliance.
Ensure compliance with Customs and Excise regulations, statutory requirements, and company policies.
Assist in preparing, reviewing, and submitting accurate customs entries through ASYCUDA World.
Receive and review export documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Ensure required permits, certificates, and licences are available before customs declaration processing.
Update customs records and shipment status information.
Maintain physical customs files and electronic records.
Track customs documentation and clearance status.
Assist during customs audits and inspections.
Administer and reconcile export acquittal documentation, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timely filing.
Assist with preparing and submitting duty drawback claims.
Maintain records of outstanding duty drawback documentation to prevent claims from becoming time-barred.
Ensure ASYCUDA export transactions and invoices are reconciled with payments received from customers.
Assist in ensuring the efficient clearing of all business exports.
Support the commercial team on customs and export-clearance matters.
Assist in ensuring tax compliance under the Customs and Excise Act.
Assist in ensuring export fees payable to ZRA are paid on time.
Monitor the correct application of SADC, COMESA, and other relevant trade agreements and preferential schemes.
Provide administrative and operational support to the Customs Analyst and Customs Officer.
Promote and adhere to ABF procedures, policies, and guidelines.
Comply with Safety, Health, Environment, Risk and Quality requirements.
Adhere to Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) policies.
Applicants should possess:

Both positions are based at Nakambala Estate in Mazabuka and form part of the Finance Department. The roles involve regular interaction with customs authorities, internal departments, commercial teams, customers, agents, and other stakeholders involved in the company's export operations.
Employees will be expected to comply with Zambia Sugar PLC and ABF policies covering safety, health, environment, risk, quality, competition law, and anti-bribery and corruption.
