Visit WebsiteThe University of Lusaka (UNILUS) Teaching Hospital is seeking a qualified and experienced Diagnostic Sonographer to join its Radiology Department. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic imaging services while supporting the clinical training and mentorship of medical and radiography students.
The Diagnostic Sonographer will be responsible for performing a wide range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations, ensuring accurate image acquisition and documentation, and maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.
The role also involves supporting teaching and mentorship activities and participating in emergency and on-call ultrasound services.
Perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including obstetric, gynaecological, abdominal, vascular, and small-parts scans.
Ensure accurate image acquisition and appropriate documentation of examinations.
Prepare preliminary reports in accordance with established radiology protocols and procedures.
Ensure imaging procedures are conducted accurately and professionally.
Maintain a high standard of patient safety, comfort, privacy, and dignity throughout examinations.
Communicate effectively with patients and provide appropriate explanations about ultrasound procedures.
Follow established clinical, radiology, and patient-care protocols.
Operate ultrasound equipment effectively and responsibly.
Conduct appropriate routine equipment checks and report faults or maintenance requirements.
Support the maintenance of high standards in ultrasound imaging quality.
Participate in the teaching and supervision of medical and radiography students.
Provide mentorship and practical guidance to students during clinical activities.
Contribute to the development of students' practical diagnostic imaging skills.
Support 24-hour emergency ultrasound coverage.
Participate in scheduled on-call ultrasound services as required.
Respond appropriately to urgent diagnostic imaging requirements.
Applicants should possess:
Diploma or Degree in Diagnostic Radiography with a specialisation in Sonography; or
Degree in Medical Imaging with Sonography.
Valid registration and practising licence with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ).
Minimum of three (3) years of continuous professional experience in a busy hospital or clinical environment.
Qualifications certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
Demonstrated proficiency in a wide range of ultrasound examinations is an added advantage.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong commitment to patient-centred care.
Ability to work effectively in a busy clinical environment.
Professional approach to patient care, confidentiality, and clinical responsibilities.
Ability to participate in emergency and on-call services.
