As part of Project Twazabuka, Zambia Sugar is seeking a qualified and safety-conscious professional to join its SHERQ team as a Safety Spotter.

Job Summary

Reporting to the SHERQ Manager, the Safety Spotter will play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture by identifying workplace hazards, supporting compliance with health and safety regulations, conducting inspections, and assisting with the implementation of SHERQ management systems across Project Twazabuka.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily patrols to identify and report unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.

  • Perform Daily Safety Inspections (DSIs) and facilitate near-miss reporting.

  • Lead Planned Task Observations (PTOs) and Critical Control Verification (CCV) activities.

  • Review contractors' safety files to ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements.

  • Support accident prevention initiatives and behaviour-based safety programmes.

  • Promote awareness of SHERQ responsibilities among employees, contractors, and stakeholders.

  • Deliver toolbox talks, HSE training sessions, and safety awareness campaigns.

  • Support the implementation of the ABF Integrated Risk Management System (IRMS).

  • Ensure compliance with SHERQ, Food Safety, Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC) policies.

  • Be available to work flexible hours and respond to emergencies when required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent.

  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or an equivalent qualification.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field is an added advantage.

  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate will be an added advantage.

  • Membership with ZOHSA, HPCZ, or the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in occupational safety within agribusiness, manufacturing, construction, mining, or a related industry.

  • Knowledge of Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental (OHS&E) management systems, preferably ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.

  • Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • All academic qualifications must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
